Abstract
Tobacco smoking is a major public health issue; it is one of the main causes of mortality and morbidity. The study aimed at exploring tobacco smoking prevalence, its socioeconomic and cultural impact, risk factors, and associated diseases among the Saudi population in the last 10 years from 2009 to 2019. PubMed was used for systematic search. The articles were selected based on the inclusion criteria, which included original articles, prospective, retrospective and cross-sectional studies, and surveys, about smoking, tobacco usage, socioeconomic and cultural impact, risk factors, and associated diseases, carried out in Saudi Arabia among the Saudi population. The review showed that the prevalence of tobacco smoking is much higher in men than in women of different ages. It is a risk factor for cardiac diseases in the Saudi population. Tobacco smoking is highly prevalent among adolescents and medical students. The study concludes that tobacco smoking is a prevalent health problem among the Saudi population that requires the development of programs to encourage quitting and reduce smoking initiation and increasing the taxation on tobacco products. Persistent education of the health hazards associated with tobacco smoking is recommended, especially to adolescents to prevent initiation of smoking. More research is needed to assess the suitable modalities for tobacco quitting in Saudi Arabia.

Key words: Smoking, tobacco, KSA, prevalence, socioeconomic, cultural impact
