Prevalence of urinary tract infections among females in Ha’il, Saudi Arabia

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of urinary tract infections (UTIs) among females in Ha’il, Saudi Arabia.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was performed between 7th November 2024 and 6th January 2025, using a structured questionnaire comprising 10 items. Responses were acquired from females aged 18 years or older who were residents of Ha’il, Saudi Arabia.
Results: This study which included 409 participants demonstrated that 28.4% of the female population in Ha’il, Saudi Arabia, had a history of UTI. The prevalence of UTI was higher among older age groups (36–45, 46–55, and >55 years) than that noted in younger individuals (p < 0.002). Additionally, the prevalence of UTIs was higher among married, divorced, and widowed participants than in single women (p < 0.005).
Conclusion: Aging and marital status were significantly associated with an increased prevalence of UTIs among female residents in the Ha’il region of Saudi Arabia. Moreover, increased prevalence rates were observed in married and older individuals. Thus, it is recommended that local authorities enhance public awareness regarding tract infections, with a particular focus on high-risk groups.
