Association between demographic features and quality of life complaints among postmenopausal women in Makkah Region, Saudi Arabia

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to explore the prevalence, severity, and demographic influences of menopausal complaints among postmenopausal women in the Makkah region of Saudi Arabia.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 314 women aged 45–75 years using an online survey. Symptom assessments through a four-point scale were used to evaluate participants' quality of life.
Results: It was found that several complaints were present, such as joint and muscular pain (82.8%), fatigue (70.7%), bloating (66.6%), poor memory (62.8%), and frequent urination (56.1%). Psychological complaints ranged from 49% to 57%. The severity of complaints was strongly correlated with the interval of menopause, employment status, and chronic diseases.
Conclusion: The study highlighted the multidimensional impact of menopause on the physical and mental health of women. Tailored healthcare interventions are essential, including health education, mental health support, promotion of physical activity, and workplace accommodation.
