Knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding epilepsy first aid among caregivers of epileptic patients in Tabuk city, Saudi Arabia

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to examine knowledge level, attitude, and practice regarding epilepsy first aid among caregivers in Tabuk city, Saudi Arabia.
Methods: Using a cross-sectional study design, data from 506 adult caregivers in Tabuk city, Saudi Arabia, were collected to evaluate their knowledge, attitude, and practice related to epilepsy and first aid for patients with epilepsy.
Results: Regarding epilepsy first aid, the participants showed good knowledge, and the majority felt comfortable providing first aid to epileptic patients. Many participants held that cultural or religious beliefs do not influence how epilepsy first aid is perceived or administered. Over half of the participants had heard misconceptions or myths about epilepsy and its first aid. Younger participants showed higher knowledge of epilepsy first aid than older participants. Most participants believed that providing first aid for epilepsy was not solely the responsibility of healthcare professionals.
Conclusion: Good knowledge was noticed among the participants regarding epilepsy first aid. Most participants were not familiar with any alternative or traditional remedies for epilepsy that are believed to be effective.
