Exploring the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on dental health and behavior among adults in Tabuk city, Saudi Arabia; a cross-sectional study

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to provide insight into the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on dental health and behavior among adults in Tabuk city, Saudi Arabia.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was designed at Tabuk city, Saudi Arabia, and 390 adults participated. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, which was administered face-to-face to the participants to collect information on socio-demographics, dental health knowledge, and practices.
Results: Regarding dental health and behavior, it was noticed that the visits to dental clinics were limited only to those necessary, because of fear of infecting oneself with SARS-CoV-2. On the other side, males were less concerned about their teeth aesthetics, and they reduced their brushing frequency than females. The education level among the studied population showed that there was a positive effect toward dental health behavior. A highly positive impression from the participants toward dental health care was noticed (91% of participants showed satisfaction responses).
Conclusion: Findings indicated that the pandemic affected the provision of urgent dental care, the provision of routine oral health services, and the upkeep of at-home oral hygiene. Recognizing this effect is crucial, as is to make sure that the systems are supported to deal with situations in the future where access to dental care might be restricted. This involves making certain that clients have access to high-quality oral healthcare products and services, as well as preventative care.
