Abstract
Background: Low back pain is associated with physical and mental complications. Our study aimed to estimate the association of back pain and anxiety among a sample from the Asir region and to correlate the results with different demographic data.
Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted at primary care clinics of King Khaled University, Abha, Saudi Arabia, from July 2021, to October 2020. All participants (N = 386) were asked to complete a questionnaire survey that included sociodemographic variables, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale, and the Roland-Morris disability questionnaire.
Results: Among the studied sample, the mean age was 32.5 ± 12.6, 201 (52.1%) were females, and 218 (56.5%) were married. There was a significant association between anxiety and back pain (p < 0.001). Female and single participants were significantly associated with anxiety and back pain (p < 0.001 and p <0.006).
Conclusion: There was a significant association between anxiety and back pain. The main risk factors associated with anxiety and back pain were being female and single. Further research is needed for exploration in this field.

Key words: Back pain, anxiety, Saudi Arabia.
