Knowledge, attitude, and experiences of menopause in postmenopausal women

Abstract
Background: The menopausal health requires considerable attention because its symptoms can be severe and affect daily, social, and sexual life of females. Thereby, this study aimed to determine menopausal knowledge, attitude, and management among postmenopausal women, and to identify the differences with educational status.
Methodology: The current cross-sectional study used a structured questionnaire. The study was done in Madinah. A survey was designed which contained demographic data of participants along with the questions on menstrual status, knowledge, and attitudes toward menopause. The research included 1,000 menopausal women aged 40-50 years.
Results: The participants who had good knowledge about postmenopausal status were about 697 (96.7%). Participants who got their knowledge from doctors were 710 (71%). There were statistically significant relations of knowledge with age, educational level, and working status. While the attitude of women toward menopause status was poor and there was a significant relationship between attitude and education.
Conclusion: Majority of women in the study were aware of menopause, but very few of them had a positive attitude toward it. It is recommended to provide a female health campaign to improve women awareness regarding dealing with this stage of life.
