Abstract
Background:
Oral and dental care during infancy could largely influence dental health in adulthood. Good oral care and hygiene could prevent multiple dental complications, as well as tooth loss. Thus, this survey aimed to study dental and pediatric practitioners' knowledge and attitudes in Saudi Arabia towards infants' dental and oral care.
Methodology:
The study used a self-administered questionnaire, which was distributed online to general dentists, pediatric dentists, and pediatricians. The questionnaire included three sections. The first section collected demographic information, while the second section measured the level of knowledge, and the third section evaluated the attitudes.
Results:
Four hundred practitioners responded to survey in this study. Of them, 47.8% were in the age group between 24 to 34 years old, and 31.5% were practicing in the Western province. Also, 58.5% were general dentists. As for the knowledge section, the average score was 1.4±0.9. As for attitude, the average score was 7.1±2.4. Practitioners aging above 45 years old (p-value<0.001), those practicing in the Southern province (p-value=0.022), and pediatric dentists (p-value=0.011) had a significantly higher level of knowledge. For attitude, non-Saudi nationals (p-value=0.03), pediatric dentists (p-value<0.001), and working for more than seven years (p-value<0.001), had more positive attitudes.
Conclusion:
Although dental practitioners' knowledge was relatively unsatisfactory, their attitudes were positive towards infants' oral care. Future studies should measure the knowledge and attitudes of parents towards infants' oral care.

Key words: Infants, oral, dental, hygiene, care, dentists, pediatrician, Saudi Arabia.
