Solitary Laryngeal Plasmacytoma: a case report of an uncommon occurrence

Fayez A. Alrohaimi, Abdulaziz Badar Almutairi, Sultan M. Alqahtani.

Abstract
Background: Extramedullary plasmacytoma is an uncommon entity of monoclonal plasma cell neoplastic proliferation that is confined and arises in tissues other than bone marrow. It is exceedingly rare, accounting for less than 0.2% of all laryngeal neoplasms and around 1% of all malignancies in the head and neck region.
Case Description: A 46-year-old male presented with neck swelling with imaging revealing a large laryngeal mass. A biopsy revealed a non-diagnostic hypocellular fibrous lesion with mixed inflammation. Incisional biopsy was taken and came as histiocytosis and fibrosing lesion. Radiation therapy was recommended, and the patient improved dramatically with regular follow-ups and close observation.
Conclusion: When evaluating a laryngeal mass, an EMP must be kept in mind as a differential diagnosis. An accurate diagnosis requires all laryngeal lesions to be biopsied to guide the proper management of the condition.

Key words: Laryngeal Plasmacytoma, Neck mass, Radiotherapy, Case report, otolaryngology
