Abstract
Background: According to the current situation in the world, Saudi Arabia also made some strategies to control the pandemic due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) virus. Thereby, this study aimed to assess the level of adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures and its predictors among the population of Jeddah City, Saudi Arabia.
Methodology: This was a cross-sectional analytical study conducted among 471 participants in 2020, which included both males and females residing in Jeddah city, Saudi Arabia. A pretested questionnaire was used, which included questions about socio-demographic factors, to assess the awareness of COVID-19 preventive measures among the people.
Results: In this study, 231 (49%) participants were considered as adherent to COVID-19 preventive measures, while 240 (51%) were considered as non-adherent. Approximately, 7.9% of the participants were diagnosed with COVID-19, 22.3% had a family member diagnosed with COVID-19, and
69.6% had a friend who was diagnosed with COVID-19. A statistically significant association was found between the level of adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures and the level of education (p = 0.036) and age (p = 0.000).
Conclusion: Only half of the participants were found to be adherent to the preventive measures of COVID-19. The most followed preventive measures were wearing mask, hand washing, and good practice of coughing and sneezing.
