Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the extent of depression in the training environment by determining the prevalence and identifying risk factors among medical residents in hospitals located in Tabuk City.
Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 78 medical residents affiliated with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties across three major hospitals in Tabuk City. Depression was assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire 9.
Results: Among the participants, the prevalence of depression varied as follows; 36% reported minimal depression, 36% reported mild depression, 12% reported moderate depression, 10% reported moderately severe depression, and 6% reported severe depression. Significant associations were found between depression and the city of basic education (p-value = 0.002), depression and residents’ specialty (p-value = <0.001), as well as depression and the level of residency (p-value = 0.031).
Conclusion: The study highlighted three key associations between depression and specific risk factors. Factors influencing depression included residents’ original city of basic education, specialties, and residency levels. These findings emphasize the multifaceted nature of factors contributing to depression among medical residents in Tabuk, encompassing both personal and professional dimensions.

Key words: Prevalent, risk factors, depression, medical residents, Saudi Arabia
