Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to explore the population’s knowledge of extraintestinal manifestations (EIMs) of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Methods: A cross-sectional study was implemented through an online survey aimed at adults from five different regions across the country, containing demographical data and questions relating to GERD EIMs, and questions relating to the knowledge of extra systemic symptoms in general.
Results: A total of 1,045 submissions were included. Demographical data showed predominantly male and local participants. Most participants (54%) claimed to have a “medium” level of knowledge regarding GERD EIMs. As for the medical and family history of GERD, 20.1% and 28.9% of participants had positive medical history and family history, respectively. Significant differences were also detected among different participants’ genders, educational levels, and age groups.
Conclusions: Significant deficits were found amongst several demographic variables indicating non-satisfactory results. Most of the population acknowledged limitations to their awareness shown by their submissions.

Key words: GERD, Gastroesophageal reflux disease, Extra gastrointestinal manifestations, Extraintestinal manifestations, community awareness
