The Association between Oral Health and Systemic Diseases: A Systematic Review

Abstract
Oral health concerns have been linked to various illnesses, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, bone disorders, cancers, and pregnancy-related ailments, indicating a close relationship between dental and systemic health. The objective of this study is to establish and confirm the association between oral health and systemic disorders with supporting evidence. A comprehensive search was conducted in November 2023, primarily utilizing PubMed and adhering to PRISMA criteria. The search was restricted to English-language research focusing on the correlation between oral health and systemic diseases. In order to ensure the quality and relevance of the evaluated research, specific inclusion and exclusion criteria were developed. The study encompassed a broad spectrum of research from diverse countries and regions, without a specific emphasis on any particular gender. A discernible pattern emerged, revealing a significant proportion of individuals with oral problems associated with systemic diseases. Based on the findings of our investigation, there is a growing body of evidence supporting the connection between oral health issues and various systemic disorders.
