Abstract
Background: Application of ionizing radiation in diagnosis and therapeutic purposes is useful for millions of patients. Different modalities using radiation are available including X-ray. Although the radiation has an advantage in treatment and diagnosis of different diseases, it is associated with several preventable risks for patients, healthcare providers, and technicians. However, risks of radiation can be minimized and patients and workers can be protected. This study was done to assess the awareness of non-radiologists about radiation protection.
Methodology: This cross sectional study was conducted among non-radiologists in the period of May to August 2018. The study was performed via an online survey to assess the knowledge.
Results: The study included 120 consultants, 33.3% of them attended radiation protection course, 32.5% ordered the organs according to their sensitivity to radiation correctly. The mean score of knowledge was 6.8±1.2, and there was a significant positive correlation between attending radiation protection course and the level of knowledge (P-value˂0.001, r=+0.73).
Conclusion: There was low level of knowledge among non-radiologists about the radiation protection and this level of knowledge was significantly associated with not attending radiation protection course.

Key words: Radiation, protection, knowledge, Non-radiologists
