The influence of spouse pressure on patients undergoing cosmetic surgeries satisfaction

Tareq AlYahya, Hiba AlBurshaid, Yasir AlShehri.

Abstract
Background: Cosmetic surgeries have become very popular in the last few years. People spend a lot of money on different procedures which makes studying the drives for it very essential. Many factors may affect the outcome and cause failure of the procedure according to the patient's opinion. The aim of this study was to identify the pressure of the spouse on the patient's satisfaction with the result of the surgery. We also studied the effect of age, marital status, years of marriage, and the occurrence of complications at the surgical site.
Methodology: This was a cross-sectional observational study. Data of 16 patients were collected using a questionnaire of three sections. Data collected from the questionnaire were then analyzed.
Results: Out of the 16 participants, 93.8% had pressure only from their spouse and one third (33.3%) of them were satisfied with their appearance after the surgery. 75% of the patients' spouses were satisfied with the appearance of their partners post-surgery and only 50% of those patients were satisfied. Around 43.8% of the patients' surgeries were indicated by their surgeons, only 57.1% of them were satisfied with the result. All studied factors showed no effect on patients' satisfaction with results of the surgery (p> 0.05).
Conclusion: The spouse may exhibit some pressure that can affect both the decision to undergo a surgery and the satisfaction with the result. Further studies with larger samples in this area are required to determine the correlation between that pressure and the patient's satisfaction.

Key words: Plastic surgery, patient's satisfaction, spouse pressure, Saudi patients.
