Abstract
Background: In the Middle East, both asthma and allergic rhinitis (AR) are the most common atopic respiratory diseases. The increase in their prevalence is associated with an increase in the types of allergens. Aeroallergens vary in different regions and countries. This study was conducted to assess the prevalence of aeroallergen sensitivity among patients with atopic diseases at King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) in Jeddah.
Methodology: In this retrospective chart review, we included the patients who attended allergy clinic of KAMC in Jeddah from January 2014 to May 2016. The data were collected online.
Results: This study included 466 patients, 51.9% males, and more than half of the patients (60.7%) were 14 years old or more. The most common atopic diseases were bronchial asthma (54.5%), followed by AR (52.7%). The most common aeroallergens present were house dust mites (HDMs, 27.9%), followed by pet allergen (17.6%), cockroaches (10.3%), and Bermuda grass (6.2%).
Conclusion: HDMs were the most common aeroallergens among atopic patients in KAMC, Jeddah, and the most affected group was pediatrics.

Key words: Prevalence, atopic patients, aeroallergy.
