Abstract
Genetic testing aims to identify genetic variations and diagnose and screen for diseases. It has yet to have effective interventions in diseases with prevention and treatment availability. It also predicts risks in diseases with limited treatment or prevention options, stumping the physician and making them hesitant when the time comes to inform the patient. Depending on environmental factors, some of these diseases may or may not even happen. Additionally, genetic testing requires ethical consideration when conducting tests on the participating patients, all of which involve the patient themself as well as their families. Genetic testing provides an abundance of information representing the extent of the patient’s risk with low certainty, which may misinterpret their result and intervention options supplied by an inauspicious scarcity of qualified/trained genetic physicians, further complicating service provision. Though genetic testing presents a few disadvantages, one must not disregard the good advantages it bestows upon the medical field. Principally, early detection of genetic variations aids in early intervention and prevention plans. It encounters a variety of diseases, including psychiatric illnesses and cancers, and has magnificent importance throughout pregnancy. Moreover, genetic testing helps parents discuss possible intervention options with their physicians. This review spotlighted genetic testing’s benefits and drawbacks.

Key words: Genetic testing, benefits, drawbacks, genome.
