Abstract
Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a viral infection that causes acute respiratory syndrome. COVID-19 causes common symptoms including fever, cough, diarrhea, fatigue, and several atypical symptoms such as neurological manifestations. Thereby, this study aimed to assess the current level of awareness and to determine the predictors that could affect the knowledge regarding COVID-19 neurological manifestations among the general population in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Methods: An online cross-sectional study was conducted through a valid and reliable questionnaire among Jeddah city participants. The questionnaire was distributed via social media through the google form.
Results: Totally 499 responses were included in the study. Around 41.3% participants were aware of the neurological manifestations. The most frequently reported symptoms were loss of taste and smell 82% and headache 81.3%. Furthermore, 45.5% participants with income less than 5,000 SR were aware of the neurological symptoms.
Conclusion: The level of awareness about neurological manifestations of COVID-19 was low among the general population in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The reduced level of awareness was significantly correlated with the income, educational level, geographical location, and previous infection with COVID-19.
