Epidural anesthesia during vaginal delivery

Abstract
Epidural anesthesia during vaginal delivery is a type of regional anesthesia used to provide pain relief during childbirth. This type of anesthesia is safe and effective and could be adjusted quickly if needed. It also allows the mother to remain awake and alert during the delivery, thus allowing her to participate in the birthing process. Epidural anesthesia not only provides pain relief to the patients during vaginal delivery, but also shortens labor, reduces the risk of complications, and reduces maternal stress. Although epidural anesthesia comes with many benefits, in rare cases, it causes severe health complications too. Epidural anesthesia should be practiced by an experienced anesthesiologist or obstetrician who is trained in the administration of anesthesia and is knowledgeable about the risks involved. The woman should be informed of the risks and benefits associated with epidural anesthesia prior to the procedure being performed.
