Abstract
Background: Choosing what contraception method to use is a complex decision that requires a medical provider's help to give enough information on every type and support the patient's choice. This study aimed to assess the awareness, attitude, and compliance of progesterone-only contraceptive pills (POPs) among women in the Central Region, Saudi Arabia.
Methodology: This is a cross-sectional study conducted in the Central Region of Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh, Al Qassim, and Al Khabra. A consecutive sample of all women who were using POPs was recruited. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed among women, including sociodemographic characteristics and questionnaires to assess the awareness, attitude, and compliance toward POPs. All statistical analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 21.
Results: The overall mean awareness score was 2.93 (SD 1.29) out of five points with low and good awareness, which were detected among 66.1% and 33.9%, respectively. Regarding attitude and compliance, the total mean score was 7.40 (SD 1.16) out of nine points, and the level of mentality and compliance showed 95.2% and 4.8% compromising of the positive and negative level, respectively. Statistical tests showed that women with a bachelor degree were significantly more associated with low awareness score (T = 2.677; p = 0.010), whereas those living in urban (T = 2.401; p = 0.027) and those who were using progesterone for more than a year (T = −2.448; p = 0.020) were significantly more associated with a better attitude.
Conclusion: While there were good attitudes and compliance of women in using POPs, their awareness was deemed suboptimal. Insufficient awareness was widely prevalent among educated women while living in the city, and a longer using POPs increases women's attitude and compliance.

Key words: Progesterone-only contraceptive pills, attitude, awareness, women
