The perception of family medicine residents regarding emergency department

Abstract
Background:
The utilization of Emergency medicine (EM) in Saudi Arabia has increased tremendously from the year 2004 to 2013. The emergency department (ED) is considered the hub of the hospital. There are several critical functions that this department undertakes including receiving critical care patients, supporting them, triage and providing urgent interventions for these emergency cases to save their lives. This study was aimed at investigating the perception of family medicine residents regarding emergency department.
Methodology
This study is conducted with a cross-sectional design on family medicine residents from the period of July to September 2018. The study was performed using an online simple survey. Data obtained were analyzed using the Statistical package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 18.
Results:
The most common areas of importance in emergency medicine were found to be resuscitation (9.1/10) and major trauma (8.8/10), whereas the least ones were primary care (3/10) and assessment and organizing social care for elderly (2/10). The most essential good ideas chosen by participants were revival traditional out of hour general practitioner (79.5%) and emergency care (72.5%).
Conclusion:
There study found that medicine residents had a good perception toward emergency medicine.
