Pemphigoid gestations and successful treatment: a case report

Abstract
Background: Pemphigoid gestationsis (PG) previously known as herpes gestationsis belongs to a group of autoimmune skin disorders that result in blistering of the mucosal membrane and skin, it is a rare disease that appears during the pregnancy.
Case Presentation: The present case is a 33-year old Saudi pregnant female who was presented at her 20th gestational week with severe pain, severe pruritic, and large size of blisters skin lesions. After the history, clinical and histopathological examination, the patient was diagnosed with subepidermal vesiculation with focal eosinophilic spongiosis and linear C3 deposition at dermo-epidermal junction consistent with gestational pemphigoid. A treatment was provided using prednisolone 30-mg tablet, combined with ranitidine 150 mg twice a day, chlorpheniramine 4 mg, calcium lactate 300 mg, calcitriol 0.25 mcg oral capsule, and
petroleum topical ointment.
Conclusion: The combination of corticosteroid and antihistamines was effective in improving PG in mother and resulted in normal delivery of baby with normal weight.
