Managing the Wink in Marcus Gunn: review of the literature

Sarah AlOmair, Adi Mohammed Al Owaifeer.

Abstract
Marcus-Gunn jaw winking syndrome (MGJWS) is a phenomenon describing congenital eyelid ptosis. This type of congenital ptosis presents with a synkinetic movement of upper eyelid on masticating movements of the jaw. The aim of this review was to review the literature concerning the management of eyelid ptosis in patients with Marcus Gunn jaw-winking syndrome. This review includes data from previously conducted studies regarding the management of MGJWS. Most published articles concluded that levator muscle resection with frontalis suspension is a safe and satisfying surgery. However, we recommend establishing a specific assessment method, as it would make the comparison between different surgical approaches more accurate.

Key words: MGJWS, eyelid ptosis, congenital ptosis, management of eyelid ptosis, management of MGJWS, complications of eyelid surgery
