Abstract
Background: Rhinosinusitis (RS) is a public health challenge with a significant impact. Understanding the risk factors and symptoms of diseases is essential for the early detection and prevention of RS. Here, we investigate the level of awareness about RS risk factors and signs among the general population of Al-Qassim region.
Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted among the population of Al-Qassim region. The data were collected by using an online questionnaire which includes 15 questions. The study data were entered and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software version 21 (IBM Corporation, Armonk, NY).
Results: A total of 596 responses were garnered across 12 cities of the Al-Qassim region. In general, there was a fair amount of awareness of RS risk factors and symptoms among the general population, with approximately 50%, indicating that they had a “fair” deal of knowledge. There were associations between demographic variables when tested against public awareness (p < 0.05). Females had a higher level of expertise in RS compared to males. Older people reported a better understanding of symptoms and risk factors. Learning about individual risk factors was highly correlated to general awareness (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the study established a significant association between particular symptom and overall knowledge of RS risk factors (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: The level of awareness of RS risk factors and symptoms among the population was fair. There are still gray areas that require greater focus, such as evaluating the level of knowledge among young people.

Key words: Rhinosinusitis, rhinitis, associations, risk factor, awareness
